USBtinyISP kit: $22

The Adafruit USBtinyISP kit.

The USBtinyISP is an electronic soldering kit to build an inexpensive but powerful AVR ISP programmer, capable of programming most recent-generation AVR microcontrollers.

We recommend the USBtinyISP for burning the Arduino bootloader onto chips, for programming Peggy 1.0 and for working with our AVR target boards. It can also be used to program Peggy 2 or Meggy Jr RGB.

The USBtinyISP is an open source kit that includes both 6-pin and 10-pin ISP programming interfaces. It can also optionally provide up to 100 mA of 5V power from USB to your target board. It works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. For more information, you can read the Evil Mad Scientist review of this kit here.

The USBtinyISP kit is produced by Adafruit Industries. Assembly instructions for this kit are on LadyAda's web site. A standard USB cable (A to B type) is required but not included.
